RUNE:HoV in-game news updates / Get RHI powered in-game news with v1.10
« Last post by Søren Bjerg on June 21, 2012, 04:26:26 PM »
At the moment Human Head Studios is not providing any in-game news, which is why you get a "server not responding" message if you wait long enough on the News server selection tab. By changing two lines in your Rune.ini file (located in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rune Classic\System\ by default), you can make the game show the news page provided to v1.08 clients (thanks to Lär for his elaboration on the official forum on how the game looks for news to display).

Find the following section:

Code: [Select]
[UBrowser.UBrowserUpdateServerLink]
UpdateServerAddress=www.rune-world.com

And change it to:

Code: [Select]
[RBrowser.RBrowserUpdateServerLink]
UpdateServerAddress=www.runehordes.info

When Human Head Studios start providing in-game news you can just revert the change to start receiving official news instead of the news provided through RUNE HORDES dot INFO - although I'll most likely setup redirection to the official news (for the benefit of v1.08 clients as well).

While the subject only mention v1.10, I assume the same change will work for all versions of the game. Feel free to correct me or confirm my assumption, as I do not currently have access to a v1.02 or v1.07 installation (where the UpdateServerAddress variable should be set as www.runegame.com instead of www.rune-world.com).

RUNE HORDES dot INFO Dev. and Support / Forum software upgrade
« Last post by Søren Bjerg on June 17, 2012, 04:58:17 PM »
I finally got around to upgrade the forum software to the latest version. Unfortunately this means the color scheme is going to be very bright and not very RUNE-like for the time being. Other "end user" changes include custom profile fields having become an integrated feature of the software, which means the contents of the previously available custom profile fields (versions of the game played and favorite weapons) have been wiped and they need to be reselected in the profile administration should one desire to display that kind of information about themselves. I may add a few more such as the old horde affiliation and new ones like favorite rune power, game type and/or map - although the grand scale purpose of this forum was never as much general game discussion as site related support...

Since the upgrade did initially cause the main site to not work, I would greatly appreciate to be informed about any broken functionality not already covered in the known bugs and issues topic, so I can work to fix it.

The missing 1.10 box in "add new horde" has been added, and a horde's changelog now detects changes in what versions of the game a horde is playing.

Oops! I'll take care of that missing 1.10 box, thanks.

Sorry for the double post, can't find the edit button. :P

It only works when editing an existing horde. When you sign up a new horde there is no box for 1.10 to check.

EDIT: Now I see the modify button, but for some reason it won't appear at my previous post.

RUNE Classic released on Steam

"The classic Viking third-person hack-and-slash melee action game is now available on Steam. This release, known as Rune Classic, contains the original Rune content, plus the multiplayer expansion pack Halls of Valhalla. Experience an exciting single player storyline where you thwart Loki and his minions from bringing Ragnarok to Midgard that will keep you entertained for hours. Eat meat and lizards, drink mead, as survival food. Call upon the power of the gods to enchant your weapon with Rune powers.

* New enemies added.
* Some levels have been redesigned for more enjoyable play.
* Experience multiplayer in vicious, fun "up close and personal" melee action with swords, maces, hammers and axes (or your opponent's head or arm).
* Includes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Arena and Headball.
* Over 35 multiplayer and singleplayer levels.
* All the music tracks from the game and the original audio CD will be available as part of this release in OGG format."

RUNE Classic on Steam!

Also as announced earlier this week by Laurie "the DeepMinded" Wise, RuneGame.com Goddess/Administrator, Human Head is requesting server hosts to contact them for prep information regarding MP. Server hosters should contact them at runeclassicsupport@ninerealms.net. The new Steam 1.10 version includes a "compatability mode" to allow Rune 1.07 players to join 1.01 servers, which means the game basically needs to be restarted to allow the new executables to reload original packages.

RUNE Classic release information

Human Head Studios just announced that "the classic Viking third person hack-and-slash melee game will be released on Steam within a week after June 8th. Rune Classic presents the original Rune and the Multiplayer Expansion Pack Halls of Valhalla. Thwart Loki and his minions and stop Ragnarok, the Norse End of Days, from destroying the world. Replenish your strength with mead, meat, and lizards. Call down the power of the gods to charge your weapons with fierce Rune powers. New enemies, new Steam Achievements, and updated levels await the intrepid Viking within you. Experience Rune's notorious multiplayer in vicious, darkly humorous up close and personal melee action. Bring swords, maces, hammers, axes, and your opponent's severed head or arm to the fray. Includes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Arena, and Headball. Ever had to hold off a horde of savage Norsemen while bank-shooting a bloody head through a stone hoop."

Had to refresh the map test a few times...jeez, forgot all those HoV maps' names!  ;D Still a fine solution, though.
Anyways, it's good to be back to RH, thumbs up for not letting runehordes.info down, Søren! [...]

Hah, yeah... there are a few maps I've already forgotten the names of as well. It could have been much worse though as over twenty HoV release maps are stripped from the pool of maps, as I thought classic RUNE players should at least have a chance to end up with three pre-HoV maps :D.

[...] On a side note:
Couldn't find the section where to report hordes, so I'll just include that into this post:

http://runehordes.info/horde.php?hID=420

This is a WoW clan. Haven't seen any of those guys in Rune. except for the leader, he played Rune like 2 or 3 years ago. I've been thankful for any clan, no matter size or reputation, who is still playing and updating their RH-info and thus supporting the system. But hell is this? WoW?! NO THANKS!  :o

They started out as a multigaming clan or something, adding members from any game to their RH- clan info (they did have a few Rune players). But now it's just a mess full of non-runers, get them out!  8)

Hmm... I'll look into that, thanks.
