Topic: Securing a dedicated RUNE server

So I came about the idea of setting up and running a dedicated server on my laptop every now and then, but I got in doubt about how to set it up properly.

Ok, not so much how to set it up, but what to set it up with (i.e. mutators)?

MOTDColor, Nix The Undead and No Runes all go without saying for general use, but is TR Bulletproof 3 still the de facto security package to use, or has newer tools surfaced recently? Should BMgame/SemiAdmin be used instead of it, in conjunction with it, or not at all?

Yeah, I've always been using those guides with regards to the more network specific parts of the configuration, but since it's also quite aged now, I wondered if they were still up-to-date... but I take it TR Bulletproof 3 is still the way to go?

Actually I had BMmod_v107a running on my server once (which newer then v107b, aight?), but I got bad experience with it.
BMmod_v107a changes the game. The admin tools are great, but the gameplay like jumps and dodges changes.

So far I tested it, the dodges are longer than normal, makes it feel like the games a bit faster.
And sometimes, when you dodge and jump in a row, is makes you fly. There are other players who can confirm that.

I'm just driving the regular TDM with some muts, and thats what I prefer.

BMmod_v107b should be a newer version than v107a (alpha and beta ).

Uhh, yeah I definitely wouldn't want to enhance jumping - if anything, I'd love to restrict it severely (i.e. stamina meter... the bigger and heavier the weapon, the less one would be able to jump and slower movement and vice versa).

Having gotten myself a brand spanking new computer last week, I'll see if I can setup the old computer as a dedicated server. Not to run 24/7 though - but on demand, more likely (like if hordes need a server to fight their battles in the RHI tournament).

My main concern is getting the computer up and running stable - without the need for an external fan... or much modification to its current configuration... but hopefully today's "blow out" of the internals will help - and possibly a freshening up of the cooling paste on the CPU.

If you want to host a server, you will need a good upload speed..otherwise the server will be to laggy to play on, what upload speed do you have?

I am well aware of that, but I'm also a believer in "trial and error", which is why I'll try and see how it works out... before deciding beforehand if it will or will not work, based on theory.
